Ingredients
  

Potatoes
  • 4 medium Russet potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter for the sauce
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour for thickening
  • 2 cups heavy cream for a rich sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to taste

Method
 

Prepare the Potatoes
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Thinly slice the potatoes using a knife or mandoline.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Assemble and Bake
  1. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  2. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
  3. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and sauce.
  4. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  5. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
