Ingredients
  

Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Cherries
  • 2 cups fresh cherries pitted and halved
Topping
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Method
 

Prepare the Batter
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter, egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
Add Cherries
  1. Gently fold in the pitted and halved cherries into the batter.
Bake
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  2. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Serve
  1. Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
