Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prep the Oven & Loaf Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8.5x4.5-inch metal loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray and line with parchment paper with overhang for easy lifting.
- Mix Cinnamon Brown Sugar: In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Prep the Apples: In another small bowl, toss diced apples with 1 tablespoon of flour until coated (prevents sinking). Set aside.
- Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
- Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar on medium speed for 2 minutes until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then beat in vanilla extract, sour cream, and milk until smooth.
- Combine & Fold: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix on low speed just until combined (do not overmix). Gently fold in the floured apple pieces with a spatula.
- Layer & Swirl: Spread half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle 2/3 of the cinnamon brown sugar evenly over the batter. Spread the remaining batter on top. Sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cinnamon brown sugar over the surface, and run a butter knife gently in a zigzag swirl pattern through the loaf.
- Bake to Golden Perfection: Bake at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes, until a wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. (Tent loosely with foil after 35 minutes if crust browns too fast).
- Cool & Slice: Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then use parchment handles to transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice thick and serve with honey butter!

Notes
Baker Secrets: 1. Dice apples into small, uniform 1/4-inch pieces and toss them with a tablespoon of flour before folding into the batter so they suspend evenly throughout the bread without sinking to the bottom. 2. Don’t overmix the batter after adding flour; gentle folding keeps the crumb tender and prevents a tough, dense loaf. 3. Tent with foil at the 35-minute mark if the brown sugar crust is deeply golden, allowing the interior to bake thoroughly without burning.
