Ingredients

For the Tender Halal Meatballs
  • 2 lbs 900g homestyle fully cooked halal beef meatballs (frozen or fresh)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil if browning from scratch
For the Sweet & Spicy Cranberry Jalapeño Glaze
  • 1 can 14 oz / 397g whole berry cranberry sauce
  • 1 bottle 12 oz / 340g sweet chili sauce (such as Heinz Chili Sauce)
  • 2 medium fresh jalapeños finely minced (seeds removed from one for balanced heat)
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic finely minced
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
For Garnish & Serving
  • 1 fresh jalapeño thinly sliced into rounds
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro or parsley finely chopped
  • Cocktail toothpicks or appetizer skewers

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Whisk the Cranberry Glaze: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the whole berry cranberry sauce, sweet chili sauce, minced jalapeños, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, ground cumin, smoked paprika, and kosher salt until well combined and smooth.
  2. Assemble in Slow Cooker: Place the frozen (or freshly browned) meatballs into the bottom of a 4-to-6-quart slow cooker. Pour the cranberry jalapeño glaze evenly over the meatballs, tossing gently with a wooden spoon or spatula until every meatball is thoroughly coated.
  3. Slow Cook to Tender Glazed Perfection: Cover with the lid and cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours (or on HIGH for 2 hours), stirring occasionally at the halfway mark, until the meatballs are piping hot throughout and the glaze has thickened into a rich, glossy coating.
  4. Garnish & Serve: Switch the slow cooker setting to WARM. Garnish the top with fresh jalapeño rounds and finely chopped cilantro or parsley. Serve directly from the slow cooker with cocktail toothpicks, or transfer to a warm platter for festive holiday buffet entertaining!

Notes

Chef Secret: For the best balance of heat and fruitiness, mince one jalapeño with seeds intact for a vibrant kick, and remove seeds from the second jalapeño for fresh pepper aroma without overwhelming spice. If making ahead for a party, keep the slow cooker on the WARM setting for up to 4 hours—the glaze will turn even richer and glossier as it rests!
