Method
Prepare the Beef Mixture
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, vanilla extract, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Prepare the Cheese Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, beaten egg, and dried basil. Mix well.
Assemble the Lasagna
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of the beef mixture on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the beef mixture, followed by half of the cheese mixture, and then another layer of beef mixture.
- Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles and the remaining beef mixture on top.
- Sprinkle additional mozzarella cheese on top if desired.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
Serve
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
